Volunteer

Volunteers play an essential role in maintaining our strong, vibrant community and expanding the impact of our neighborhood association. Without amazing volunteers that donate their time and effort, we would not be able to operate or serve our neighbors well. We believe that every resident in our community has something to offer, and we would love to know what skills, abilities and passions you would like to bring to our community group and neighborhood as a whole. This could include volunteering for events(like those listed below) or establishing a long-term volunteer role on a neighborhood association committee. We would love to hear from you about any interest you may have in volunteering! Please email us at volunteers@kingparkneighbors.org.
Alley Clean-ups

We have such a beautiful neighborhood, but sometimes it needs a little extra help. Especially in spring after the snow melts, our alleys can tend to not look as beautiful as we know they can. It's natural for trash and yard waste to accumulate without realizing it, especially for neighbors who might have mobility limitations or that have extensive work/family demands. But with only a little bit of time and effort from our community members, along with some rakes and gloves, we can help! If you would be willing to help clean up our neighborhood alleys, email volunteers@kingparkneighbors.org with the subject line "Alley Volunteer" to sign up for the next clean-up day!

Summer Events

Because of the beautiful park we have in our community, there are typically many community events that are hosted here during the summer. In recent years these have included events such as ArtPrize, the African American Arts and Music Festival, Movies in the Park and many more. Most of these events need community volunteers to make them possible. That help might include things like manning a booth, hosting a children's game, handing out food, setting-up, tearing-down, or just being a welcoming smiling face. So if you are willing to spend a day, or even just a couple hours, we would love your help! Email volunteers@kingparkneighbors.org with the subject line "Summer Events Volunteer" to get plugged in to any up coming events!

Join a committee

If you are passionate about this community and want to help determine the direction we are heading, please consider joining one of our committees shown below! Committee members help think through, develop and deploy the messaging and different programs for our community. By participating in a committee you can help shape those efforts and serve our community with your gifts of creativity, accountability and detailed planning.

Safety and Crime Prevention Committee

The Safety and Crime Prevention committee works with both neighbors and community police officers to better understand what crime is happening in the neighborhood and find ways to improve the safety and well-being of those within our community. The committee is dedicated to listening to neighbors in order to identify ways they can feel safer living, working, and playing in the neighborhood. Community and police relationships are of utmost importance to the committee and it is essential that neighbors be heard regarding policing in our neighborhood.
Marketing and Communications Committee

The Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for creating awareness of our neighborhood association within our neighborhood and the larger Grand Rapids community. The committee strives to engage all neighbors by being intentional in our messaging and finding a variety of communication methods to best meet the diverse needs of our community. Identifying and reducing barriers to accessing association communications and community news is another priority for this committee.
Events and Programming Committee

The Events and Programming Committee seeks to capitalize on the existing talent within our neighborhood by partnering with neighbors, businesses, and local outreach organizations to implement a wide range of events and programs within our community. Whether they are events hosted in MLK Park, or our association creating events specifically for our neighborhood, this committee intends to be part of the process. Our goal is that all events and programs are designed with the diverse interests and needs of our neighbors in mind.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a committee member, please email volunteers@kingparkneighbors.org with the subject line "Committee Volunteer". In your email, please specify if there is a specific committee you would like to join, and why you are interested in becoming a committee member. We will reply to your message with information on expectations for being a committee members and walk you through the next steps in the process.

Please consider donating today, as every little bit helps the future of our neighborhood look a little bit brighter.

Please be aware that Martin Luther King Park Neighborhood Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization. All donations made are tax deductible.
